Synopsis:
Parvati belongs to a very rich zamindar family. She falls in love with a farmer, who is also interested in art, and marries him against her brother's wishes. She is not allowed to enter her brother's house. Later, in a car accident, her brother and sister-in-law die, leaving behind their daughter, Sumati. The sister-in-law's brother takes Sumati away to Chennai and brings her up. Parvati tells her son Velan (Kamal Haasan) to find Sumati (Khushboo) and get married to her, but on the condition that no one should know that he is Parvati's son. How Velan fulfills his mother's wish and finally marries Sumati is shown in a very hilarious way.
