Yennai Arindhaal's story follows the journey of man named Sathyadev, from the age of 13 till the age of 38. Gautham Menon described Yennai Arindhaal as the third in his franchise of police films after Kaakha Kaakha and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, and the last of the trilogy. He also described Ajith's character Sathyadev as an "extension" of the protagonists in the first two films
