Bhutan, a country of only 700,000 people, seemed at first glance like a tiny self contained world, with rugged terrain and unusual distinctive culture, but for all this cultural and natural content, one was also reminded of the tiny country of Switzerland, itself a landlocked mountainous nation.

Paro Taktsang, is a sacred Vajrayana Himalayan Buddhist site located in the cliffside of the upper Paro valley in Bhutan. It is one of thirteen Tiger's Nest caves in historical Tibet in which Padmasambhava practiced and taught Vajrayana.

It is believed that Buddhism set foot in Bhutan in about the 7th century by a Tibetian ruler known as Songtsan Gampo. 747 A.D. marks the visit of one of the most important figures shaping the culture of Bhutan. Popularly called as Guru Rimpoche (Guru Padma Sambhava) is considered as honourable as Buddha himself.
